Dedicated to your garden

We love Cambridge gardens

We maintain and nurture beautiful gardens. That’s it. Nothing else. Nothing to waver our passion for horticulture – nothing to cut our focus.

The aim was, and still is, to be the best gardening company in Cambridge. We offer a professional gardening service with dedicated horticulturists, providing high-quality horticultural care and planting design.

Rob Chew – Managing Director

Rob grew up immersed in plants & a plant-loving family in the Cotswolds. It wasn’t long before his hobby became a vocation. Rob studied for his RHS Level 2 Course in Horticulture while volunteering at Cambridge Botanic Gardens & National Trust Wimpole Hall. In 2007, he began gardening for private clients & formed Abbotswood Gardeners in 2014. He’s gained a Plants & Plantsmanship Diploma from the English School of Gardening. “It’s a privilege to help conserve Cambridge's old & new gardens, & provide a career path for aspirant, young gardeners. I’m fortunate to have a job that lets me live out my garden fantasies: creating & improving gardens with a team whose enthusiasm & creativity I value & admire."

Abi Bradshaw – senior gardener

Abi swapped software for secateurs when she left graphic design to join Abbotswood Gardeners. Keen to combine her love of nature, plants & design, she enrolled on a horticulture apprenticeship with Shuttleworth College & began working at Abbotswood in 2020. "I love the variety of gardens & projects we work on & also Rob's passion for training up a new generation of gardeners," she says. "Every day I learn something new. It's fantastic to work in some of Cambridge's most beautiful private gardens."

Keiron – Apprentice gardener

Our newest recruit started working for Abbotswood Gardeners in 2021, straight out of college. And after several trial days, he was hooked on horticulture & is now a full-time apprentice. "Abbotswood was recommended to me by my college & when I saw how friendly & passionate the team were, I decided I would love to carry on," says Keiron, who got bitten by the gardening bug after helping out at his grandparents' allotment. "I love how varied the job is & every one of our Cambridge gardens has its own specific characteristics that make every visit interesting."
